Emory University + Emory Healthcare Anchor Partners for Atlanta Wealth Building Initiative To Support 1,000 Black-Owned Businesses

During the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the companies that handled Emory University’s composting either went out of business or cut back operations.

To find another contractor, Emory sought help from a new partner–the Atlanta Wealth Building Initiative (AWBI).

The nonprofit group helped Emory identify a slate of minority-owned businesses as potential contractors to manage the more than 2,100 tons of waste the University collects for compost. Officials declined to name potential vendors because contract talks are underway.
