As we celebrate Black History Month, we are recognizing San Antonians who are making a difference. We are honoring a local leader who is committed to empowering inner-city and urban high school students by teaching leadership skills. Allow us to introduce you to Paula Monroe, who tells us how empowering inner-city students is a labor of love for her.
“She’s amazing,” said the Summit Sponsor at Sam Houston High School Joredanne Carmack. “I love her.”
Her motherly approach to teaching comes naturally and was nurtured at home with her own children and grandchildren.
To Monroe, family comes first, including her extended family at schools around San Antonio.
For five years now, she and her team have taught life skills to at-risk youths who given the current climate are going to need it.
